Artist Statement: Pin-up Girls The subject of female identity/beauty is explored in this series of paintings. Playful and graphic, the vibrant colors belie what is a layered issue comprised of the fulfillment and imposition of expectations upon dreams and desire. The “Pin-up Girl” simultaneously reveals an absorption in the eternal quest to be “beautiful”, and the act of making judgment, which is the prerogative of the viewer. I have chosen to reverse the use of the traditional sepia under-painting in these panels. The sepia is the over-painting: the subject revealed. The pieces in this series are oil on wood panel and oil on linen.
